If you’re about to visit Sarasota, give your taste buds an adventure with locally owned establishments featuring southern comfort to… Zagat Rated cuisine!
A local favorite is Word of Mouth at 711 South Osprey Ave. or 6604 Gateway. With locally grown veggies, freshly caught fish and eggs from nearby farms you’ll be licking your plate and begging for more of their toasted seven grain bread.
One of Sarasota’s landmark breakfast and lunch spots is Troyer’s Dutch Heritage Restaurant at 3713 Bahia Vista. With all-you-can-eat eggs, waffles and pancakes to freshly baked muffins and fresh fruit you can’t go wrong with Amish goodness.
The ORIGINAL EGG, a longtime local favorite is at 4031 Clark Road.
ANOTHER BROKEN EGG has two locations on Siesta Key and Lakewood Ranch featuring cinnamon roll French toast, Gluten friendly pancakes, eggs benedict with crab and lobster/brie omelettes. It’s worth it!
Excellent downtown eateries include landmark establishments like Bijou Café, Selva Grill, Caragiulo’s, Barnacle Bills, Beulah’s, Mediterraneo and Salute.
A little music with a meal is always pumping at Mattison’s while the Blue Rooster features down home cooking with plenty of Blues.
There are several locations featuring water and romance. Marina Jack’s is right downtown on the bay with a spectacular second floor view. Lido Grill at the Lido Beach Resort features a panoramic beach vista at the bar and a dining room overlooking Sarasota Bay. Ophelia’s on Siesta Key offers intimate enclaves and dockside dining with views of Little Sarasota Bay. For your information, this is a favorite of Stephen King, (author of “Duma Key”). South from downtown, on the east side of Route 41, is a hidden local gem called Roessler’s with lakeside views tropical gardens and gazebo.
An evening at St. Armand’s Circle on Lido Key is always fun and shops remain open for that after a good meal… stroll. The Crab and Fin and Café L’Europe are St. Armand landmarks featuring classic continental cuisine, patio seating and sidewalk piano tunes (only at Crab & Fin). The Columbia with under cover and outdoor dining offers excellent Spanish food while Tommy Bahama’s draws young professionals to moderately priced small bites, burgers & seafood. Off circle are a pocket of eateries like Le Colonne and 15 South Ristorante Enoteca with musical entertainment upstairs at their nightclub Straight-up.
A burger & brew with bay view…
O’Leary’s at Centennial Park is on Sarasota’s bay front featuring Tiki bar and island vibes.
